WHAT WE BELIEVE

SONLIGHT BAPTIST CHURCH

Sonlight Baptist Church is a conservative, evangelistic, non-reformed, family-integrated, Independent Baptist church. We believe in keeping the family together as we worship the Lord, encouraging our children to learn, by example, what it means to worship the Lord together, with their parents, under the authority of their father.

We believe that the father is the head of the home, and as the authority of his home, the church is to equip, undergird, and assist him, but not replace him, in the teaching & growing of his family in the Lord. Therefore, we do not separate the young people out into a "youth group," but rather, we do any ministry projects or fun events together as families or father/son, mother/daughter events. We believe that it honors the Lord to encourage young adults to seek the counsel and wisdom of their own parents, and as a church, we desire to promote family unity and a turning of the hearts of the fathers and children towards one another to the glory of the Lord.

We desire to love and minister to and with dear people in all walks of life… single, married, families, widows, and senior saints. The body of Christ is a beautiful variation of so many different people, who are each a reflection of His love and mercy, and we desire to minister with and encourage each one.

DOCTRINE

 We believe:

  1. The Bible is the inspired Word of God, and the sole authority in all matters of Faith and Practice.  (II Tim. 3:16; II Peter 1:21)

  2. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  (I John 5:7; John 10:30; Matthew 28:19)

  3. In the Deity of Jesus Christ, His Virgin Birth, His shed Blood for Atonement of man’s sins, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His personal return to establish His Kingdom on earth. (John 1:1,2; Romans 9:5; Isa. 7:14; Phil. 2:6-8)

  4. All men by nature are sinful and lost, and that for eternal salvation, spiritual regeneration is absolutely essential. (Eph. 2:8,9; Rom. 6:10; Titus 3:5)

  5. Satan is a fallen spirit being and the Lake of Fire is a place of eternal punishment for all unsaved. (Isa. 14:12-14; Gen. 3:5; Rev. 20:11-15)

  6. Men are justified on the single ground of faith in Jesus Christ; that He shed His blood on the cross in our place and was resurrected from the dead. (Acts 16:312; II Cor. 5:18-21)

  7. In the eternal security of the Believer; that once a Believer is saved, they are saved for all eternity. (John 10:28; Romans 8:38,39)

  8. A New Testament Local Church is an organized body of baptized believers, practicing scriptural ordinances, and actively engaged in fulfilling the Great Commission. (Matt. 28:19,20; I Cor. 5:4; Eph. 5:23,24)

  9. Baptism is a Scriptural ordinance requiring immersion of believers only, to be administered by a New Testament Church. (Acts 2:38:10:47; 16:33; Matt. 28:18-20)

  10. The Lord’s Supper is a Scriptural ordinance of the Church, to be partaken of by born again Christians of like faith. (I Cor. 11:23,24)

  11. In the physical resurrection of the saved and the lost:  the saved unto the resurrection of eternal life with Christ, and the lost unto the resurrection of damnation in a place called the Lake of Fire. (II Cor. 5:8; I Cor. 15:51-57; I Thess. 4:14-17; Rev. 20:11-15)

  12. In the pre-millennial, pre-tribulation rapture of the saints. (I Thess. 4:13-5:1-9; Rev. 19:11-20:4)

MISSION STATEMENT

We believe the church is the body of Christ and is made up of individual believers who have each accepted, personally, Christ's substitutionary sacrifice for us on the cross as the only way to heaven, and that the purpose of the church is to equip and exhort the saints so that we might walk in the Spirit, and in victory, and in separation unto Him and from the world, as salt and light, in the blessed roles God has given each one of us, discipling others and being disciple, and winning the lost to Christ.
